But despite their Soccer jerseys star quarterback's output, the Saints are struggling, posting a 3-3 record and occupying last place in the NFC South. The problem for the team has been their inability to win the close ones.
New Orleans lost to the Minnesota Vikings by three (27-30). The Vikings hit the game winning field goal with 13 seconds left in the game. The Saints also lost to the Denver Broncos. That was a two-point game in which New Orleans Saints kicker Kelly Gramatica missed a 43-yard field goal that would have put the Saints ahead with 1:55 left in the game. The clubs' other loss came at the hands of the Washington Redskins. That 24-29 loss occurred after the Skins scored 14 fourth quarter points and the Saints scored none.
Brees has rarely faltered this season. But the New Orleans defense and special teams play has been deficient at times. If the Saints can get consistent play from all units, Brees will make them tough to beat
In 2007, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees put up his best stats ever, passing for a total of 4,423 yards while completing 67.5% of his passes and tossing 28 touchdowns.
All of those were tops in his seven years as a professional quarterback. What can Brees do to top that? Well, if he stays on track, he'll do a whole lot.
This far in six games, the QB has a completion rate of 71.0%, averaging 8.9 YPP and garnering a 105.0 rating. He's thrown 12 TDs and his passes total 1,993 yards. With those stats serving as a guidepost, Brees is on track to throw for 5,315 yards and to toss 32 touchdowns. Those are remarkable numbers and they are partially responsible for making the Saints one of the most productive offenses in the NFL this season. Only two teams have scored more points than the Saints.
