Barca play Euro guessing game over Messi

MOSCOW (AFP) - Barcelona may be tempted to throw Lionel Messi into Champions League action against Rubin Kazan on Wednesday despite the Argentine superstar having been sidelined by an ankle injury.
World footballer of the year Messi was in the 19-man squad which travelled to nfl throwback jerseys
Russia for the Group D clash despite the Spanish giants sitting comfortably, having crushed Panathinaikos in their opening game.
Messi, who has missed the last two league games, scored twice in that match but Barcelona are wary of a Rubin Kazan side which pulled off a famous 2-1 win at the Nou Camp on their competition debut last season.Cowboys jersey

The return leg ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
"Rubin surprised us at home last season and that really set up the group," said Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
"The weather conditions and the difficulty of the rivals made it a very complicated task when we went over to Kazan.
"But this season we are going after having played the first game and the time of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the year means that the climate will be more benign."
Rubin Kazan, the Russian champions, go into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Alania Vladikavkaz to stay in the race for a title repeat.
Italian full-back Salvatore Bochetti was the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal in the 38th minute by drilling the ball home through a packed penalty area.
Rubin, who suffered a 1-0 defeat in their Champions League campaign opener in Copenhagen, will try to summon the spirit of last year's win in Barcelona where Alexander Ryazantsev and Gokdeniz Karadeniz were on the scoresheet.
"We all are in a confident mood ahead of clash with Barcelona," Ryazantsev said.
"We won the last match in domestic league and are still in the race Minnesota Vikings jersey
for the title."
"The upcoming match will be completely different. We and Barcelona are completely different this year. But I hope the match will be still interesting. Barcelona are always strong."
Rubin are at full strength for Wednesday's match.

Bengals pull away to beat Panthers 20-7

Colts jersey
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Jimmy Clausen(notes) took a hard shot to the ribs and crumpled to the turf just after releasing his final pass Sunday, a fourth-down heave into the end zone that fell incomplete.
His miserable day wasn’t over as he staggered to his feet. Fiery teammate Steve Smith was waiting on the sideline with a tongue-lashing.
It made Carson Palmer’s(notes) shaky day look not so football jerseys
bad at all.
Palmer shook off two interceptions to throw a clinching touchdown pass to Cedric Benson(notes) midway through the fourth quarter. Benson rushed for another TD in the Cincinnati Bengals’ ugly 20-7 victory over Carolina to spoil Clausen’s first NFL start and continue the Panthers’ horrible beginning to the season.
“I’m trying to get Smitty the ball as many times as we can. He’s our big playmaker on offense,” said Clausen on taking the brunt of Smith’s frustration. “It’s tough sometimes trying to get him the ball when there are two guys doubling Steve.”
Cincinnati (2-1) snapped a five-game road losing streak despite a mistake-filled performance in drizzly weather that included little explosiveness from the receiving duo of Chad Ochocinco(notes) and Terrell Owens(notes).
“I missed a couple of passes that were just a little off,” said Palmer, who had four more passes nearly intercepted and made a bizarre mental error at the end of the first half that cost Cincinnati three points. “It’s just something that we’re going to keep working on.”
Little offensive firepower was needed with the former Notre Dame star Clausen unable to jump-start Carolina’s feeble offense that committed four more turnovers. The Panthers have three touchdowns and 12 turnovers in their second straight 0-3 start.
Clausen, who took over when Matt Moore(notes) was benched last week, threw for 188 yards with an interception and lost fumble.
“I don’t think it’s a rookie quarterback problem. I don’t think it’s fair to blame Jimmy or Matt,” said Smith, who had calmed down after the game. “I don’t think it’s fair to blame me or (rookie receiver) David Gettis(notes). There are a lot of people involved in this thing.”
Jonathan Stewart’s(notes) lost fumble set up Palmer’s 7-yard TD pass to Benson— the running back’s first career TD receiving—to put the Bengals ahead 20-7.
Benson added a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter and Mike Nugent(notes) Colts jersey
kicked two field goals in Cincinnati’s second straight victory. The Bengals beat Baltimore last week without scoring a touchdown.
“This isn’t the BCS,” cornerback Leon Hall(notes) said. “We just need a win.”
Hall intercepted Clausen in his miserable first half that included a 0.0 passer rating. He didn’t complete his second pass until the first minute of the third quarter.
Clausen finished 16 of 33, but he had numerous passes dropped. Stewart and DeAngelo Williams(notes) managed just 77 yards rushing.
Embattled coach John Fox said it was “too early” to say who will start next week at New Orleans, but deflected much of the blame from Clausen.
“We had a little bit of a spark for about 3 1/2 minutes,” Fox said. “In this league, that’s not enough”
After managing 6 yards passing and two first downs in the first half, Clausen led Carolina on an eight-play, 75-yard drive capped by Stewart’s 1-yard TD run to cut the deficit to 10-7.
Trailing 13-7, Clausen finally found Smith for his first catch of the day on the ensuing possession. But Stewart fumbled on the next play, and Cincinnati’s Robert Geathers(notes) recovered to set up the clinching score
The final minute of the first half perhaps best summed up the offensive ugliness despite the presence of big-name receivers Ochocinco, Owens and Smith.
Carolina’s Mike Goodson(notes) bobbled a handoff and kneed the ball 10 yards downfield, where Cincinnati’s Morgan Trent(notes) recovered at the Carolina 27.
The Bengals then seemingly were on their way to a half-ending touchdown when Palmer inexplicably threw over the middle to Jermaine Gresham(notes) at the Carolina 5 with no timeouts left. Palmer couldn’t get a snap off before the half ended.
Palmer was 19 of 37 for 195 yards and Ochocinco and Owens combined for Cowboys jersey
eight catches for 76 yards.
“You try to take pride in our passing game,” Owens said. “Obviously, the weather conditions prohibited us from doing some things down the field.”
Notes: Panthers S Charles Godfrey(notes) had his third interception. … Panthers LB Jamar Williams(notes) (neck) didn’t return after a first-quarter collision on a punt return. … Brian Leonard(notes) ran for a Cincinnati first down on a direct snap off a fake punt in the second quarter, and later ran 6 yards on a pitch on fourth-and-1.

26 sep 10 Valuable Possessions

IRVING, Texas - Head coach Wade Phillips says it's time to "call 911" this week. Clearly, the Cowboys have a sense of urgency in trying to avoid a 0-3 start this Sunday against the Houston Texans (2-0).
For the offense, it's about maximizing possessions.
As much as the Cowboys' defense will aim to stall nfl jerseys
drives, an efficient Cowboys offense would also help negate the Texans' top-ranked scoring unit that's averaging 32.0 points and piling up the most yards through two games (440.5).
The Cowboys aren't far behind in total yardage (395.0), ranking fourth. But they're tied for 25th in points (13.5), scoring on only four of 21 total possessions in losses to the Redskins and Bears.
"There are teams that are struggling (everywhere). They're not making 300, 200 yards a game," Phillips said. "But we've struggled in a way that we haven't scored enough. That's our struggle."
The Texans' offense has been more resourceful with a small, two-game sample size. Led by quarterback Matt Scab, Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson and the league's leading rusher, Arian Foster (300 yards), Houston has scored on 12 of 22 total possessions, including its first three drives in a decisive Week One victory over the AFC Champion Colts.
Only two of its drives have ended in a turnover (Scab interception) or San Diego Chargers jersey
missed field goal. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have watched six series end prematurely: two interceptions, two fumbles, two missed field goals. They also have a league-high 10 offensive penalties.
"The results are a byproduct of not doing certain things right," quarterback Tony Room said. "We just need to get those things done that allow you to win or lose the game, and do them right."
Establishing balance will help. The Cowboys had 374 passing yards last Sunday against the Bears but only 36 rushing yards on 20 carries, a sharp decline from their 103 yards against the Redskins. Steelers jersey

The Cowboys had only six carries in the second half against Chicago. The cause: partly because of their deficit, partly because they weren't effective. Over the entire game, six of their runs totaled minus-17 yards.
"I think when you run the ball and run it successfully, it makes everything a lot easier," Room said. "Whether it's your red zone offense or staying on the field or minimizing mistakes or minimizing what the defense can do. But if you're not getting the production out of it, you're also banging your head against the wall to just keep doing it.
"Third-and-eight is a lot more difficult than third-and-four. You put a lot more pressure in a lot of areas for people to be sound and perfect if you're not able to get that."
At their best, the Cowboys' defense gets off the field as often Chicago Bears jersey
as any team in the league. Last year they allowed the second-fewest points (250) and yielded only six to the Redskins before Chicago racked up 27 last Sunday.
More efficient offense will make their job easier, just as Scab and Co. have done for their defense.

Sack race

IRVING - The Cowboys' outside pass rushers, Anthony Spencer and Demarks Ware, are again late arrivals.
In their 0-2 start, the Cowboys have two sacks, one each by Spencer and Ware. That's an improvement over last season, when the defense went without a sack in the first two games.
Two sacks from a defense that has elite pass rushers in Spencer and Ware are not much in the grand scheme of cheap nfl jerseys
the NFL. The Cowboys are tied for 27th in sacks. That's a steep drop in a short time. In 2008, the Cowboys led the league with 59 sacks.
"I think we're getting good pressure," Coach Wade Phillips said. "I'd like to get great pressure."
The pass rush made a cameo appearance during Sunday's loss to Chicago before going back into seclusion.
Spencer sacked Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on the second play. Led by Ware, the defense hit Cutler on each of the first five pass plays and on two other snaps that were erased by penalties. A harried Cutler completed two of four passes for 5 yards in that span.
And then, nothing.
For the rest of the game, Cutler went 19-of-25 for 272 yards and three touchdowns with no sacks despite operating behind a makeshift line. For the second consecutive game, the Cowboys allowed a sack-prone quarterback remain upright.
In the opener, Cutler took four sacks in a win against Detroit. In the opener, the Cowboys had one sack against Washington's Donovan McNabb. Last season, the Cowboys dropped McNabb a total of 12 times in three games.
"If you look at it number-wise, it's not up to where it should be," Ware said of Saints jersey
the club's sacks total. "If you look at it pressure-wise, I'm getting there. I have to be aware of those things and have more sacks and more pressure and make big plays, because we haven't had them."
Ware has applied significant pressure. He has only one sack but is tied for second with Philadelphia's Trent Cole for combined quarterback hurries and knockdowns with nine, one behind league leader Clay Matthews of Green Bay. A year ago, Ware led the league with a combined 45 hurries and knockdowns.
The Bears countered Ware's presence with quicker passes. Washington also did not wait on double-move routes to develop, letting McNabb roll away from pressure and make safe throws.
Ware blamed himself for allowing Cutler and McNabb to duck sacks by outmaneuvering him. Ware has at times broken through protection so quickly that he flew past the quarterback.
"You still have to get the guy down," Ware said. "That's a problem you can run into, being overly aggressive when you have a running quarterback like a Cutler or a McNabb."Indianapolis Colts jersey

Ware has come closer to takedowns than Spencer. He has not yet picked up on last season's powerful finish.
Spencer, who meets more blocking as the strong side linebacker, went from no sacks in the first 10 games of 2009 to six sacks and 14 hurries in the final six regular-season games. He tied for fifth in the league with 40 combined hurries and knockdowns.
At training camp, Phillips put Spencer on the same pedestal with another strong side linebacker he coached: Hall of Farmer Ricky Jackson.
"I'm not really surprised," Spencer said. "I didn't have a sack for a while last year. We're doing the things we need to do in practice. We're trying to get it down and done right."
Spencer has one sack but only three combined hurries and San Diego Chargers jersey
knockdowns. To create sacks, takeaways and havoc, Spencer must meet Ware in the backfield. The Cowboys need that to happen soon.
The Cowboys face Houston quarterback Matt Scab on Sunday. Scab enters the game ranked fifth in the NFL at 302 passing yards per game.

24 sep 10 Tatupu brings experience, savvy to Seattle D

RENTON, Wash. (AP)—Pete Carroll never fully appreciated what Lofa Tatupu(notes) brought to his defense at Southern California until Tatupu was on his way out of college and headed toward a pro career.
The Seattle Seahawks learned a similar lesson a year ago nfl throwback jerseys
when Tatupu, their defensive captain and three-time Pro Bowl selection, missed 11 games with hamstring and pectoral injuries.
“He definitely adds a different element to the defense. he’s a leader and a veteran player that has been through it all. He brings his experience and wisdom to the field,” fellow Seattle linebacker David Hawthorne(notes) said. “Sometimes he’s like a coach out there. When things aren’t going well and we need a big play he’s reliable enough to put us in the right situation.”
Being called the elder statesman of Seattle’s defense might irk Tatupu, who will turn 28 in November. He’s the anchor of a talented linebacking corps that includes Hawthorne and Aaron Curry(notes).
But his value to the Seahawks defense was never more evident than the final nine games of last season when Tatupu was recovering from his torn pectoral.
The Seahawks defense was thrashed for 281 points in those games when Tatupu was a spectator. Seattle went just 3-6 in its final nine games, part of the reason wholesale changes came about in the offseason.
“I did a lot of self-scouting, going back and watching tapes not just of myself but our defense,” Tatupu said. “I feel like I’ve learned a lot in that year sitting out and (I’m) still trying to work the kinks out.”
Admittedly still not at the same comfort level he was during his Pro Bowl seasons, Tatupu is quickly working back into the form that made him one of the top young linebackers in the NFL just a few years ago. He’s already tied for the team lead in tackles through two games, even though Tatupu wondered Wednesday Buffalo Bills jersey
who was keeping stats in Denver last Sunday, believing he should have a few more stops.
“He adds more than most guys because he helps the people around him play well,” Carroll said. “It’s not just his play, it’s the way he communicates, it’s his savvy, it’s his ability to identify situations and take advantage of the coaching and the game planning and all of that. He’s just uniquely qualified and so we feel much more together when he’s out there just because of what he brings.”
Carroll’s history with Tatupu began at USC in 2002. Deciding he was better than then-Division I-AA Maine, where he played as a freshman, Tatupu transferred to USC with no guarantees. By the time he returned to the field in 2003—after sitting out a season due to transfer rules—Tatupu was the starting middle linebacker.
From there he grew into an all-Pac-10 linebacker, another in a long string of standouts at that position produced by the Trojans in the last decade. In both his seasons as a starter, Tatupu led the Trojans in tackles and received every accolade possible.Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

Carroll acknowledges now that Tatupu’s development and time spent in the Trojans program growing into a second-round NFL pick kept him from understanding how good Tatupu was until he was about to leave.
“I didn’t recognize it early on because he kind of grew up through the program, until actually when we were evaluating when he was deciding to leave and I went back and looked at him to try to give him a good assessment of what I thought,” Carroll said. “When I started to notice all the unique things that he does and kind of the sense and savvy that he shows in making tackles and setting up blockers and feeling plays and things like that, that really separated from anybody that I coached in the last few years.”
Tatupu returned from injury as he was being reunited with Carroll and his college linebackers coach, Ken Norton Jr., who is holding the same position in Seattle. Norton still puts Tatupu on a pedestal as the example he wants others to follow.
“He’s a football junky. He just lives and breathes. You talk to him about San Diego Chargers jersey
stats and older players and the history of the game and what others are doing, he knows it all,” Norton said. “For a football player and a coach that’s kind of how you want them. He’s kind of like my model, ‘be like this guy.’ The younger players I want them around Lofa and understanding what he understands.”

Olympique Lyonnais President Targets Ligue 1 Title This Season, Champions League Next

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Jean-Michel Aulas, president of Olympique Lyonnais, has affirmed his belief that general manager Claude Puel can arrest the club's recent run of poor results to claim the Ligue 1 title this season, then carry les Gones on to Champions League glory next term.
OL have started Le Championnat in turgid form, winning only one of nfl throwback jerseys
their opening six encounters, but Aulas has resisted calls to sack Puel. “I can change things if I think it is not working,” the president told Le Progres, rejecting claims that Lyon cannot afford to sack the former Monaco and Lille coach. “This is not the case after six league games. All changes observed in the major European teams in early season lead to disaster.”
Asked if there is a chance of Puel resigning, Aulas said: “The option has never been mentioned. The goal is the [Ligue 1] title this year and the Champions League next year. I believe it can happen. If he thinks that the task is impossible, he will tell me himself, I will not need to raise my voice.”
Presently sitting in 17th place in the French league, Lyon are eight points behind pacesetters and local rivals Saint-Etienne, whom they host in France’s big weekend clash this Saturday night.
Inter coach Rafael Benitez has brushed off suggestions he is at odds with striker Diego Milito.
Milito has come under a regiment of criticism as life at San Siro is looking bleak following a stellar campaign last term.
The striker's agent Fernando Hidalgo earlier claimed that Jose Mourinho was Steelers jersey
a key source of his client's success - blaming Benitez for the poor start.
However, the Spanish coach is watching over Milito and he is out to help, not hinder, his fortunes.
Benitez addressed his concerns on what Hidalgo said during his pre-Bari press conference and asserted authority between pitch and bench, quick to quash talk of a Milito rebellion.
"I have spoken to Milito. He is well and is working good. He worked well today also," Benitez told the press.
"Diego knows it's just a matter of time. His agent's comments? Milito told me he was surprised by the comments because he has not spoken to his agent for a month.
"I have learned one thing though. We are getting close to games against Roma and Juventus, and all these things are emerging…
"Will they have a negative impact? I like working on the pitch, staying focused. The most important thing is that my players work well. What people say on the outside is not important."
Aside from the Milito dilemmas, or lack of, central to the coach's themes was the Vikings jersey
debate generated by Maurizio Zamparini, who claimed Inter are the new Juventus.
"Coming from the Premier League I can say that presidents there do not speak as much as they do here," said Benitez.
"Also, we had 17 shots on goal against Palermo… I have respect for everyone in football, and so I will not add more. I am a coach that speaks about football," he said.

Lothar Matthaus named new Bulgaria coach

Dallas Cowboys jersey
SOFIA (AFP) - German football great Lothar Matthaeus has been appointed as Bulgaria's new national team coach, the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) announced on Tuesday.
"Lothar Matthaeus is the new national team coach," BFU president Borislav Mihaylov football jerseys
told a press conference after a meeting of the union's executive board. "He will sign his contract over the coming days."
Mihaylov refused to disclose any financial details about the contract but said it would be for one year, with an option to extend it by two more years.
Matthaeus, who last managed Israeli club Maccabi Netanya, will replace former national coach Stanimir Stoilov, who resigned after Bulgaria lost their second successive Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on September 7.
The 49-year-old German is expected to lead the squad in their next qualifier against Wales in Cardiff on October 8.
A former captain of the West German national team and 1990 World Cup winner, Matthaeus was named the first ever FIFA World Player of the Year in 1991.
After ending his career as footballer, the former midfielder coached a range of San Francisco 49ers jersey
teams, including Partizan Belgrade, Hungary's national team and Red Bull Salzburg.
WOLFSBURG, Germany (AFP) - Wolfsburg's Algerian international Karim Ziani is expected to be out for two to three months because he needs a hip operation, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, who arrived at Wolfsburg in July 2009, has struggled with a pain in his groin and needs an operation to fix the problem.
"Experts consulted have determined that Karim Ziani could not do without a hip operation," said the 2009 Bundesliga champions on their website.
"It is expected he will be out for two to three months."
The midfielder was part of Algeria's World Cup squad and despite 13 Buffalo Bills jersey
appearances, including three this season, for Wolfsburg, has yet to win a game with the Bundesliga club.
Wolfsburg, who are second-from-bottom of the German league, are at Hamburg on Wednesday in the German league.

Spurs pay the penalty as Arsenal win 4-1

Dallas Cowboys jersey
LONDON, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Samir Nasri slotted home two extra-time penalties in quick succession to send Arsenal through to the last 16 of the English League Cup with a 4-1 rout of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
League One (third division) Brentford served up the night’s big upset and triggered scenes of jubilation in west London by knocking out Premier League Everton 4-3 on penalties after holding the visitors 1-1 in normal time.
With the score also 1-1 after the 90 minutes at White nfl jerseys
Hart Lane, French midfielder Nasri overcame his own superstition to shatter Spurs’ hopes with two spot kicks in the space of three minutes early in extra time.
“He had a superstition to think that when the penalty is made on you, not to take it,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after his club’s biggest win at White Hart Lane in 32 years.
“I tried to prove to him that it’s only based on fear. It’s gone tonight…he realises now it was a bad superstition.”
The first penalty was awarded after Nasri was tugged by Sebastien Bassong and the second when Steven Caulker fouled Marouane Chamakh.
Second-half substitute Andrey Arshavin delivered the final blow with a low shot from the edge of the box.
“I thought the first one (penalty) was harsh,” said Tottenham manager Harry Chicago Bears jersey
Redknapp. “Really, I think he’s dived. The second one was a blatant penalty.”
OTHER UPSET
Second division Burnley savoured the night’s other upset with a 1-0 home win over their former manager Owen Coyle’s Premier League Bolton Wanderers.
Struggling West Ham United won 2-1 at Premier League rivals Sunderland and, in another all top-flight clash, Stoke City beat Fulham 2-0, while Birmingham City saw off third division Milton Keynes Dons 3-1. Arsenal were by far the better team in the first half against Spurs and went ahead in the 15th minute with England under-21 international Henri Lansbury scoring his first senior goal for the club.
The arrival of Robbie Keane after the break revived Spurs and the Irishman equalised just three minutes into the second half with a shot that rolled into the net despite goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski getting his hands to the ball.
Keane could have wrapped it up for the hosts in the 83rd when he smacked a shot against the left upright.
The match started after a minute’s applause for former England international New Orleans Saints jersey
Bobby Smith, centre-forward in Tottenham’s double-winning side of 1960-61, who died on Saturday aged 77.
Wenger, serving a one-match touchline ban for his behaviour at Sunderland on Saturday, watched from the directors’ box and had to resort to texting instructions to the dugout.

Bengals have Ravens QB Joe Flacco's number

Dallas Cowboys jersey
The Bengals have Joe Flacco's number, and it's the most telling one in the AFC North race.
Three games. Eight interceptions. Three Bengals wins.
The defending division champs had their way nfl jersey
with Baltimore's quarterback again Sunday. He threw a career-high four interceptions in Cincinnati's 15-10 victory, a sign that there's still one daunting obstacle to the Ravens overtaking the Bengals for the AFC North crown.
They know how to make Flacco look his worst.
''He has a lot of weapons, and we didn't want to give him any time to find them,'' said linebacker Brandon Johnson, who had one of the four interceptions.
The Bengals' formula works.
In the last two years, Flacco has had some of his worst games against Cincinnati (1-1). He has completed only 56 percent of his passes with two touchdowns, eight interceptions and a minuscule passer rating of 44.4 in their three games. He's thrown 17 interceptions overall in the last two seasons, eight of them against the Bengals.
He's done much better against the two other division teams. His passer rating against Pittsburgh is an above-average 93.4, and it's a superb 107.2 against Cleveland.
It's stunning compared to what he's done against everyone else. As a second-year pro, he Bears jersey
completed a franchise-record 63.1 percent of his passes and set a Ravens record with his 88.9 passer rating last year. In the last three games against Cincinnati, his passer ratings have been 70.1, 48.3 and 23.8.
All three games against Cincinnati have followed the same pattern: Take away the deep throw, force Flacco to dump off. Wait for him to get frustrated and force one. Knock him down a lot, too.
''We prefer a team to take check-down passes,'' defensive tackle Pat Sims said Monday. ''We don't want to give them the long routes and take the long shots. We give them the check-down passes, then everybody just runs to the ball.''
Flacco didn't complete a pass in the first quarter Sunday, the first time he'd gone an entire quarter without a completion since his rookie year. In the first half, he went 5 of 17 for 23 yards. His completions went for 10, 6, 5, 1 and 1 yard.
The formula worked again.
The Ravens (1-1) tried to make their passing game more vertical, signing receivers Anquan Boldin and Dante' Stallworth in the offseason. When Stallworth got hurt in preseason, they signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh. On Sunday, Boldin caught five passes for only 35 yards - his longest went for 13 yards - and Houshmandzadeh didn't catch any of the six passes thrown his way.
The Bengals didn't do anything different to get the same result.
''It wasn't going to be no trying to trick them,'' safety Chris Crocker said. ''We just lined up. What they saw is what they got.''
Two of those three Bengals wins have come after emotional weeks that left the defense inspired to beat the Ravens.
Last October, the wife of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer died three days before a Bills jersey
game in Baltimore. Zimmer and his family made the trip, and the defense dedicated the game to them. A 17-14 victory put the Bengals in control of the division. Zimmer got the game ball in a teary locker room afterward.
Last week, the defense was seething over its poor showing in a 38-24 loss at New England. No surprise that it was at its best against the Ravens again.
''We knew this was a game we had to win,'' Crocker said. ''This was a big game. We really didn't want to get behind the ball by being 0-2.''

Redskins CB Hall says he should be covering top WR

Dallas Cowboys jersey
No NFL defense is giving up more yards or first downs than the Washington Redskins so far, and cornerback DeAngelo Hall offered a solution Monday: He should cover each opponent's top receiver.
And Hall doesn't really seem to care what defensive nfl throwback jerseys
coordinator Jim Haslett thinks of that plan.
''Don't matter what he say. This is my team; this is my defense,'' Hall said. ''So I'm going to follow the receiver around. That's what I'm going to do. If we've got to do that to win games, that's what I'm going to do.''
The Redskins allowed Texans quarterback Matt Schaub to throw for a franchise-record 497 yards and three touchdowns in Houston's 30-27 overtime victory Sunday. Washington led 27-10 late in the third quarter.
Schaub's totals included a game-tying, 34-yard scoring pass to Andre Johnson on fourth-and-10 with 2:03 left in regulation. Cornerback Phillip Buchanon and safety Reed Doughty were in coverage; Hall was lined up on the other side of the field.
Johnson wound up outjumping Doughty in the end zone to make the catch.
''We'll go back to the drawing board. Won't happen like that again. If Andre Johnson's out there, I'm going to be out there,'' Hall said.
Talking about that play, Hall said: ''That's how it was. That ain't how it's going to be from here on out. I'm going wherever the ... ball is going. Wherever the receiver's going, that's where ... I'm going, bottom line.''
Part of the comments were relayed later Monday to coach Mike Shanahan, who said he liked Hall's attitude.
''I want all my players thinking that way ... wanting the pressure of covering the top receiver,'' Shanahan said. ''You want guys that believe in themselves, and guys that know they can get the job done.''
The Redskins (1-1) have given up 906 yards and 53 first downs through two games, including a 13-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Hall returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first half in that game.
Asked about his defense's play this season, his first in Washington, Shanahan said: ''Well, you're going to give up big plays with any defense when you're just kind of getting started. It's a learning curve. We've just got to keep on getting better.''
During his first four seasons in the league with the Atlanta Falcons, Hall said, he Dallas Cowboys jersey
generally was assigned to cover the other team's best receiver.
And that, he maintains, is how it should be with the Redskins, who have been relying on zone coverage in the defensive backfield.
''You give me enough opportunities, I'm going to make plays. That's how it is. Yesterday, I didn't have no opportunities to make no plays. That's frustrating,'' Hall said. ''It's frustrating to go out there and be up 17 points and still lose a game.''
Hall didn't speak with Haslett in the offseason about getting assigned to follow one particular receiver. But Hall figures Haslett is familiar with his play in the past.
At home after Sunday's loss, Hall tried to figure out how the Redskins let the Texans come back.
''I felt like the game was over, felt like we were dominating those guys, hitting Schaub whenever we wanted to. He was falling down without anybody even around him, like Peyton Manning does a lot,'' Hall said. ''I don't know what transpired.''
NOTES: An MRI exam on LT Trent Williams' injured left knee came back negative, but Shanahan said he won't know until later in the week whether the fourth overall pick in this year's draft will play against the Rams on Sunday. ... Shanahan said he doesn't know whether DL Albert Haynesworth (ankle) will be available to practice this week. ... The Redskins have run for 107 yards; the only two NFL clubs who gained fewer on the ground as of Monday afternoon were the Saints and 49ers, who had played only one game before meeting Monday night. Washington ran for 18 yards on Chargers jersey
17 carries Sunday, and Shanahan acknowledged, ''The running game wasn't there.'' ... Shanahan had no problem with Texans coach Gary Kubiak calling a timeout just as Redskins K Graham Gano was about to attempt a 52-yard field goal in overtime; after all, as Shanahan pointed out, it's a strategy he ''got so much abuse for starting'' years ago. Gano initially put the ball through the uprights, but it didn't count; his second attempt sailed wide right. Gano explained Monday he ''kind of lifted my head up in excitement to try and see where the kick went,'' which threw his body off. ''It's never good when it happens,'' Gano said, ''but it's better that it happens now, rather than when we're in the playoffs.''

Clausen to start for Panthers; Moore benched

Dallas Cowboys jersey
A day before his 23rd birthday, Jimmy Clausen received a job promotion he seemed destined for since before he entered high school: NFL starting quarterback.
In a rapid ascension made possible by football jerseys
Matt Moore's six turnovers and Carolina's 0-2 start, Panthers coach John Fox announced on Monday the second-round pick from Notre Dame will start Sunday's game against Cincinnati.
''I've dreamt it for my whole life, to be a starting quarterback in the National Football League,'' said Clausen, who went unbeaten in high school and was one of the nation's top college recruits before playing in the Notre Dame spotlight. ''It's real exciting, but at same time it's a job. You've got to go prepare.''
Clausen, whose stunning fall to 48th overall amid concerns about his attitude was one of the top stories of April's draft, will take over the NFL's 28th-rated offense as Carolina seeks to avoid a second straight 0-3 start.
''We've just not been getting it done,'' said Fox, facing his own uncertainty in the final year of his contract. ''Jimmy is a guy we think highly of. I thought he made the most of his opportunities Sunday. We'll see how it goes this week.''
Clausen's promotion was accelerated by Moore's dismal start to the season, a steep fall from his strong 4-1 finish as a starter last season that helped pave the way for seven-year starter Jake Delhomme's release in March.
''I'm not happy with it. I understand, I accept it. But it's definitely not what you want to hear as a player,'' Moore said. ''I'll be behind Jimmy as the weeks go on.''
Moore threw three end zone interceptions and lost a fumble before leaving with a concussion in a Week 1 loss to the New York Giants. After being cleared to return Sunday, Moore threw an interception and lost another fumble before getting yanked early in the fourth quarter of the 20-7 loss to Tampa Bay.
Moore has led Carolina on only two touchdown drives, completed just 41 percent of Minnesota Vikings jersey
his passes and has a passer rating of 41.8. It comes after the Panthers became the first team in at least 14 years to not score an offensive touchdown in the preseason.
It's nothing like the end of last season, when he threw eight touchdown passes and one interception. The undrafted, fourth-year QB from Oregon State entered this year 6-2 as a starter.
When asked what's gone wrong, Moore shook his head and replied, ''I wish I knew.'' He rejected the argument his demotion was inevitable when Clausen fell to the Panthers in the draft.
''I don't think my thoughts were headed in that direction at all,'' Moore said. ''I was confident, I still am. I know I can play. Unfortunately, the last two showings haven't been great. This is the option we have and they went with it.''
Fox, who stubbornly stuck with Delhomme last season despite his 18 interceptions until he was sidelined with a broken finger, had a quick trigger this time.
Moore completed just 6 of 16 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown against the Buccaneers. It included overthrowing rookie David Gettis for what would've been a touchdown. Tight end Dante Rosario couldn't hang on to a slightly overthrown ball that likely also would've gone for a score.
''There were some plays out there that we left, no doubt,'' Fox said. ''We've got to be able to make those in game situations. Talking to the team today, we've got to spark our offense, in particular the passing game. So we're going to start Jimmy Clausen this week. ... We'll let Matt sit back and watch.''
Clausen is 7 of 15 for 59 yards and one interception in two brief stints this season. Clausen said he was ''surprised'' when Fox told him Monday morning he was taking over.
''It's exciting,'' Clausen said, ''but at the same time it's time to get to work now.''
Clausen was greeted with cheers when he replaced Moore early in the fourth quarter Sunday. He quickly matched Moore in completed passes on his first drive, but it ended with running back Jonathan Stewart being stopped short on fourth-and-goal from the 1. Clausen was intercepted by Aqib Talib later in the game on a Indianapolis Colts jersey
deflected pass.
Clausen, groomed for this since he was setting high school records, is now charged with jump-starting a stagnant offense on a winless team with no experienced receiver after Steve Smith.
''Somehow or another we have to gain some confidence in the passing game,'' Fox said. ''We'll see if this works.''

Manchester City-Wigan Athletic Preview

Dallas Cowboys jersey
WALTER SIMON STATS European Football Writer=
LONDON (SE) - Yaya Toure has warmed up for Manchester City’s Premier League clash at Wigan on Sunday by claiming he has already fallen in love with English football.
Toure raised a few eyebrows when he quit Spanish nfl jerseys
champions Barcelona to join brother Kolo at the City of Manchester Stadium over the summer.
The 24 million pounds Ivory Coast star believes he is more suited to playing in the Premier League than La Liga.
Toure said: “When I think about the differences between football in Spain and England, the biggest is that in Spain the matches are played slowly with a lot of quality.
“In England everyone has to fight and run for the opportunity to play football. I love that. I know I am suited to the Premier League.”
Wigan have already been thrashed 6-0 by Chelsea and 4-0 by newly promoted Blackpool this season but pulled off a shock 1-0 win at Tottenham on their last away outing.
Toure insists his multi-millionaire team-mates must have full respect for The Latics and the Premier League’s other smaller clubs.
“I have a lot of respect for these clubs,” he continued. “But our matches against them are going to be very important to know whether we are a strong side as well.
“We are just starting on our path, with a lot of Bills jersey
new players but if we work hard I am totally sure we can join these famous clubs.”
City manager Robert Mancini could hand Brazilian striker Jo a rare league start after he scored in Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League win over Austrian side Salzburg.
Mancini said: “To me my players are the best in the world, but I know for all strikers it is important to score goals.
“Jo has scored one important goal for us now I hope he continues in the same way in the league.”
Mancini will recall the likes of James Milner, Adam Johnson and Micah Richards after making wholesale changes for the trip to Austria.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez expects City to challenge for the title this season.
Martinez said: “You are always looking at what you are doing rather than the opposition, but you look at Manchester City, and you feel it’s only a matter of time before they are competing to win the Premier League.
“You just hope that we are playing them at a time when we can disrupt them and not allow them to be themselves.
“They have assembled probably the best squad of 20 footballers anywhere in the world, and that’s obviously a fantastic position to be in.
“It’s only a matter of time before they click, and they are going to be challenging for the title very soon \2013 there’s no two ways about that.
“We just need to make it difficult as we can for 49ers jersey
them, and we are also desperate to get the rewards we didn’t get against Sunderland.
“You can buy as many players as you like, but you’ll never buy a complete team. The hardest part of the challenge facing the management at City is to get a team out of a lot of skilled individuals.”

Media Microscope: Goal USA's Twitter Revolution

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Right now, the Goal.com USA Twitter account (@GoalUSA) automatically tweets any new
articles that are posted on the website, so cheap nfl jerseys
our 10,917 (and counting) followers are up to speed on the soccer news of the moment. Trouble is, it’s all one way traffic.
@GoalUSA follows exactly zero people. @GoalUSA has no thoughts, no emotions, no beliefs.
It just dutifully regurgitates the news, like some robotic mother bird, feeding her news hungry
young (followers). @GoalUSA is basically a lifeless, monotone soccer information droid.
This is all right, but certainly leaves room for improvement. To me, Twitter is all about
interactivity: retweets, @ replies, hashtags, following trending items, and wantonly making fun
of as many people as possible in 140 characters or less. @GoalUSA would know nothing about
any of that, because as a robot, it has no personality.
Fear not though, because change is on its way! It will be gradual at Chargers jersey
first but eventually, I’m
hoping for a major overhaul of our Twitter account. Allow me to explain.
Starting next week, we will have an actual human being live-tweeting during our MLS game of
the week, plus during an EPL slate of games on a Saturday and/or Sunday. We will also have
@GoalUSA manned during all MLS playoff matches.
This human being will be tweeting occasional live updates of the match (or matches), asking
followers questions and retweeting the best responses, using appropriate hashtags, and linking to Goal.com articles of their choosing. Sarcasm and unprovoked mocking of players and teams will be encouraged.
During most of the week, we will still have the @GoalUSA Twitterbot functioning as normal,
because I do think it still has a part to play for Goal.com.
However, in my opinion, the human element will create a more dynamic, entertaining and
informative Twitter account for @GoalUSA’s considerable base of Bears jersey
followers. With apologies to
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, I feel like we’re sitting on a winning lottery ticket here. Time to
cash in.
If you aren’t on Twitter, what are you waiting for? Seriously, just do it. Trust me, you won’t
regret it. And while you’re at it, follow @GoalUSA. Viva la revolución!

Blackpool-Chelsea Preview

Dallas Cowboys jersey
DANIEL CUTTS STATS European Football Writer=
LONDON (SE) - Nicolas Anelka wants to maintain Chelsea’s goal-laden start to the season against Blackpool on Sunday after claiming the Premier League is running scared of the free-scoring Blues.
France striker Anelka has already netted four goals in all football jersey
competitions while Carlo Ancelotti’s side have notched an impressive 21 goals in their opening five games.
Having already hammered six past West Ham and Wigan, Anelka believes the whole of England fear Ancelotti’s troops.
Anelka said: “Teams know goals can come from anywhere, so maybe they will be scared. It is good that goals are coming from all positions.
“We feel we can score against anyone right now. This is a good team. It has a lot of big players and everyone can score.
“We will try to do what we did last year and with the amount of goals, maybe we can go even better because we have started well.”
Anelka believes manager Ancelloti is the sole reason the Blues are doing so well because he has not changed the side that won the Premier League and FA Cup double last season.
Former Arsenal and Liverpool star Anelka, 31, added: “Why are we winning games by so many goals? Maybe because we did not change the team very much in the summer, so everybody knows each other’s game.
“That makes it easier for everybody. We will only know if Indianapolis Colts jersey
we are better this season if we win the Champions League as well as everything else.”
The Blues will be without talismanic midfielder Frank Lampard who is recovering from recent groin surgery.
Blackpool defender Ian Evatt has hit back at Anelka’s boasts.
Ian Holloway’s side were hammered 6-0 at Arsenal last month but centre back Evatt, sent off against the Gunners, said: “I don’t think there is any fear at all.
“The lads are looking forward to going to Stamford Bridge and putting on a better show than we did at Arsenal and hopefully prove a few doubters wrong.
“For whatever reason, myself and the team just didn’t perform that day. It was a bit of an eye-opener. What you find with our group of players is that we might get knocked down but we keep getting back up.
“We don’t know when we’re beaten and if we do get beat we don’t let is affect us.
“We got knocked down at Arsenal quite heavily but we came back with good performances against Fulham and Newcastle. Hopefully against Chelsea we will do the same thing.”
Pool manager Holloway has also heaped praise on striker DJ Campbell, who scored on his debut against Newcastle last weekend.
Campbell, 28, cost Blackpool just one million pounds and Holloway said: “I think that is cheap for a player who will score lots \2013 we created chances for him.
“He could have had a hat-trick at Newcastle, he Dallas Cowboys jersey
looked electric, strong and sharp and he looked like he was home.”
Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste will miss the fixture with a broken hand and goalkeeper Paul Rachubka is out with a knee problem.

Va. Tech loses JT Thompson for the year

Cowboys jersey
Before the bad news was made official by way of football jersey
the news release, Virginia Tech senior forward J.T. Thompson had this to tweet about the torn ACL that will keep from playing this season.
I'm juss sittin here thinkin I was goin crazy when I had to sit out a few games missin the whole year is goin to kill me
The injury suffered during a pickup game not only is personally devastating, but also damaging to the Hokies' chances this season of getting back to the NCAA tournament.
The Hokies barely missed getting a bid last season and return most of Buffalo Bills jersey
a 25-win team that went to the NIT, but Thompson is the second forward to go down this offseason.
Allan Chaney fainted during an individual workout in April, and the transfer from Florida could be lost for the season due to a heart ailment.
The team's sixth man, Thompson averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season. The silver lining is that he could redshirt and play as a senior next season.
"I am extremely disappointed for JT, suffering an ACL injury that will result in a season-ending surgery," coach Seth Greenberg said in a statement. "JT is a huge part of what we have been able to accomplish over the last three years. His work ethic, energy, toughness and skill level will most definitely be missed. At Minnesota Vikings jersey
this time, we need to be there for JT. I am sure that players already in the program will step up when given the opportunity. We expect JT to have a full recovery and know that he will still find a way to contribute this season and be a leader next year."

KFC Yum! Center needs UL fans to show

Cowboys jersey
Picture this. Louisville moves into the brand new KFC Yum! Center, and for some reason, the team's games are no longer a hot ticket. There are plenty of empty seats during big games for whatever reason, whether it's because of the economy or something else that leads to a lack of nfl jerseys
support for the program.
Louisville fans wouldn't dream of this alternate reality, right? Well good, because the arena is counting on all this not happening since downtown sales tax revenue projections are reportedly falling short of helping cover the arena debt.
Standard & Poor's credit analyst Aneesh Prabhu indicated to The Courier-Journal, that support from Cardinals fans could become a necessary element in the arena's financing.
Prabhu said that the tax plan is the most uncertain portion of the arena financing, but he expects said the arena will meet its revenue projections as long as there's not a drop-off in support for the University of Louisville's basketball teams -- the arena's main tenants.
"The arena benefits from the fact that unlike any San Francisco 49ers jersey
other city this is really the only game in town," he said.
Lagging fan support for Louisville isn't at all likely given the program has consistently ranked in the nation's top 10 in home attendance.
But for the financial health of the arena that has been made questionable due to the recession, the hope is that the fans will also give the surrounding area an economic boost.
"All we can do at this stage, since it’s now ready to open, isPittsburgh Steelers jersey
to hope and pray that the business that is stimulated around the arena will generate the money that is anticipated," Kentucky state representative Jim Wayne told The Courier-Journal.
After all, the 10-year, $13.5 million naming rights deal that gave the arena its KFC Yum! name can only help pay a portion of the debt.

Why were Kolb and Bradley on the field?

Indianapolis Colts jersey

Among the many questions we're asking about the Philadelphia Eagles this morning, there's one that should stand apart from the rest. Why did the Eagles put quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley back on the field if there was even a remote chance they were suffering nfl throwback jerseys
from concussions?
Phil Sheridan of the Inquirer wrote his column about this very topic, and he makes some excellent points:
"I don't have an M.D., and I didn't have the Indianapolis Colts jersey
chance to examine either player," writes Sheridan. "The bottom line, though, is that Kolb and Bradley were both deemed unable to return to the game by the very same medical staff that cleared them a few minutes earlier. That certainly suggests they should have been kept out of the game entirely. Given the timing -- late in the second quarter -- it would have been simple enough to hold them out until halftime."
And given the fact that Brian Westbrook had two concussions in a relatively short period of time last season, coach Andy Reid has become an expert on concussion protocol. I watched Bradley staggering around after he collided with teammate Ernie Sims and assumed there was no way he'd return. But he was back out there for a Packers touchdown drive.
On a day when the Eagles made a mess of Dallas Cowboys jersey
things, this may be the hardest to clean up.

Eagles handled Rodgers with pressure (!)

Indianapolis Colts jersey

We didn't spend any time Sunday discussing the performance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the Green Bay Packers' 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. As you know, we have a rule against painting Rodgers in anything but a Hall of football jerseys
Fame light on this blog.
Seriously, Rodgers was, in his own word, "terrible" after throwing two interceptions and seeming off-target for much of the game. By my count, it was only the fifth game in Rodgers' career in which he hasn't thrown more touchdown passes than interceptions. According to ESPN's Stats & Information, it was also a surprising breakaway from Rodgers' typical grace under pressure.

As we noted last week, Rodgers had the NFL's Minnesota Vikings jersey
best passer rating against added pressure last season. But the Eagles' pressure clearly got to him Sunday. Both of his interceptions came against the blitz, and the chart accompanying the post illustrates his performance against standard and added pressure.

"It was as bad as I can Dallas Cowboys jersey
play," Rodgers said. "I've got to be better. I missed a lot of throws. ... I personally made too many dumb mistakes."

Rams dodge Alex Barron's 22nd holding call

Indianapolis Colts jersey

The St. Louis Rams sacrificed depth on their offensive line when parting with Alex Barron, who had started for them at tackle since 2005.

That sacrifice resembled addition by subtraction when Barron's holding penalty Sunday negated the Dallas nfl jerseys
Cowboys' winning touchdown pass as time expired. This was the third holding call of the game against Barron and the 22nd of Barron's career. The Rams traded Barron to the Cowboys for linebacker Bobby Carpenter, a player St. Louis released.

Barron had run his course in St. Dallas Cowboys jersey
Louis, becoming known for penalties and inconsistent play. As the chart shows, Barron ranks third among NFL players in offensive holding penalties since entering the league as a first-round choice in 2005, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Rams' offensive linemen were not flagged for holding in Week 1.

Serie A: Chievo move top, Lazio off the mark

Steelers jersey

Mattia Destro scored on his Serie A debut for Genoa after six minutes and it looked like it would be a comprehensive win for the home team as they wasted numerous chances in the first half an hour, but the Flying Donkeys responded well.
Davide Moscardelli brought them level on the stroke of nfl jerseys
half-time and further goals from Michele Marcolini and Sergio Pellissier in the second half earned them a deserved win which could even have been greater, had they taken their chances better.
Juventus picked up their first point of the season but could have had all three against Sampdoria as they twice relinquished the lead in an entertaining draw at Turin's Stadio Olimpico.
Luigi Del Neri's side, who went down 1-0 at Bari in their opener a fortnight ago, trailed to Nicola Pozzi's 36th-minute strike but got back on terms through Claudio Marchisio two minutes before the break.
Simone Pepe and Fabio Quagliarella netted further goals for Juve after the interval but on each occasion they were cancelled out, first by Antonio Cassano and then by Pozzi again.
Lazio fended off a late Bologna comeback to record their first victory of the season.
Stefano Mauri and Tommaso Rocchi had given the Romans what seemed like an unassailable lead with strikes in the second half. But when Gaby Mudingayi clawed one back for the visitors with 12 minutes remaining it set up a frantic finish.
The Rossoblu surged forward in search of an equaliser, with the best opportunity falling to substitute Daniele Paponi who, in the 88th minute, headed over the bar Luca Siligardi's dangerous cross towards the far post.
Lazio put the game beyond doubt when Hernanes struck from the penalty spot deep in stoppage-time after Daniele Portanova had brought down substitute Libor Kozak inside the area.
Bari continued their strong start to the season, following up their openeing day win over Juventus with Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
a 2-2 draw at Napoli.
Paulo Barreto put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute, but Edison Cavani levelled for the home side after half an hour.
Paolo Cannavaro thought he had won it late on for Napoli, but Jose Castillo silenced the fans inside the Stadio San Paolo with an equaliser within a minute.
Lecce completed a fortuitous 1-0 victory over Fiorentina as La Viola were left to rue wasteful finishing and a linesman's questionable flag.
David Di Michele scored the only goal in the ninth minute, but the hosts were forced to withstand near-constant pressure thereafter.
Goalkeeper Antonio Rosati was in inspired form, Alessio Cerci was the most culpable amongst a host of missed chances and Per Kroldrup had most to complain about when dubiously adjudged offside early in the second half.
Catania earned their first points of the season courtesy of two penalties against Parma.
Giuseppe Mascara converted the first in the 12th minute after Massimo Paci brought down Nicolas Spolli and Mirko Antenucci fired home the second eight minutes from time after being fouled by the hapless Paci.
Sebastian Giovinco got a late goal back for Parma but they came away empty-handed and even had Alessandro Lucarelli sent off in injury time.
Brescia won their first game of the season as they edged Palermo 3-2 at the Mario Rigamonti stadium.
Simone Dallamano put Brescia in front early on while Javier Indianapolis Colts jersey
Pastore equalised midway through the first half for Palermo. Citadin Elder restored the home side's lead in the 28th minute and Andrea Caracciolo then converted from the penalty spot before half-time.
Federico Balzaretti reduced arrears with seven minutes remaining but Brescia held on for their first points of the campaign.

Hype for Lions’ Best growing wildly

Cowboys jersey

The Lions have a rookie for a second straight season who quickly is earning the respect of the team's veteran players. Last season, it was QB Matthew Stafford(notes), who was praised for his focus and maturity. This season, it's RB Jahvid Best(notes), who, along with DT nfl jerseys
Ndamukong Suh(notes), carries major expectations into his first season. As the No. 2 pick in the draft, Suh naturally has a high ceiling. But the praise for Best has been sky-high, with fans, media and fellow players evoking a hallowed name in comparison: Indianapolis Colts jersey
Barry Sanders. Best has electric skills, although he clearly has a lot to prove before the Sanders comparisons can even be taken seriously. Although Best's speed and creativity in open space fit his modus operandi as a smaller, quicker back, our sources have been most impressed with Best's inside running ability and his toughness. Health questions, which plagued him at Cal, will crop up. But for now, Best appears to be much better than Dallas Cowboys jersey
anyone could have hoped at this point.

Grant could miss Stoke game due to Yom Kippur

Cowboys jersey

LONDON (AFP) - West Ham manager Avram Grant could miss his struggling side's Premier League match against Stoke later this month to observe Yom Kippur.
Grant's team play at the Britannia Stadium on September 18 - a key dnfl jersey
ate in the Jewish calendar which marks the Day of Atonement - and the Hammers' Israeli boss may be given a leave of absence.
West Ham are bottom of the Premier League after losing their first three matches, but co-owner David Gold has no intention of forcing former Chelsea and Portsmouth manager Grant to work if he prefers to observe Yom Kippur.
"It is difficult to stand in the way of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
eligious conviction," Gold said. "Religion is a very personal thing and, much as I would like Avram to be at every game, I would respect his decision.
"It's like a player who wants to miss a game to be at the birth of his child - no matter how much his team-mates might need him on the pitch, it's hard to stand in his way of something which is so important in his personal life.
"It varies, from individual to individual, how important religion is to you and it's a question of degrees. If my grandparents were still alive, they would not have gone to a match on Yom Kippur.
"Personally, I believe it is possible to fulfil both your religious Dallas Cowboys jersey
obligations and your work obligations, but it's not so easy to do both if you are absolutely devout.
"I don't know Avram well enough yet to say whether he must be at the game, but you can't make a judgement like this on behalf of someone else."

Ghana still waiting on Rajevac’s decision

ACCRA, Ghana (AP)—Ghana’s football federation says it is still waiting for Milovan Rajevac to decide whether he wants to stay on as coach of the national team, and the Serbian has until Sunday to sign a new contract.
Media reports say Rajevac has joined Saudi club Al Ahly Jeddah as nfl throwback jerseys
coach.
But spokesman Randy Abbey told The Associated Press Dallas Cowboys jersey
Friday that the GFA had not been told that Rajevac had quit and was still waiting on his decision after it gave him a seven-day ultimatum.
Abbey says the GFA has “given him an ultimatum and until it ends and he decides not to sign the new contract, only then would we know he has decided to part with the Black Stars.”
Rajevac led Ghana to the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Indianapolis Colts jersey
Cup. He has been offered a new four-year deal.

The former Tottenham and West Ham player has Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

He helped Fulham enjoy a fairytale run to the Europa League final, as well as making his England debut in a friendly against Hungary in August.

Everton's Rodwell out for three months 82

LONDON (AFP) - Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell will be out of action for up to three months with an ankle injury.
The 19-year-old was injured in a tackle with Aston Villa defender nfl jerseys
Stephen Warnock in Everton's 1-0 defeat at Villa Park on August 29 and scans have showed it will be December before he is back in action.
Rodwell was withdrawn from England's recent Under-21 Minnesota Vikings jersey

"They think it doesn't need surgery but unfortunately he is Indianapolis Colts jersey
going to be out for two to three months."

Galliani defends Huntelaar exit

Steelers jersey

ROME (AFP) - AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani defended the club's decision to sell Holland striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Schalke 04, claiming that whatever they do, someone is always unhappy.
Huntelaar and Marco Borriello, who left for AS Roma, football jersey
both had to make way for the arrivals of Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazilian Robinho but Galliani doesn't believe he will regret letting the two centre-forwards leave.
"It's the same old discussion when we buy players it's a mistake and when we sell them it's a mistake," he told reporters.
"Let's be clear about this, Huntelaar is a good player, he's a central striker but we've chosen Ibrahimovic for that role and hence he's left.
"Two have gone, Huntelaar and Borriello and Minnesota Vikings jersey
I wish them well because they're two excellent players who will do well with Schalke and Roma.
"And two have arrived. I've done what the coach (Massimiliano Allegri) wanted. He wanted one wide striker more and a central striker less.
"And I, who am always at the coach's service, gave him what he wanted."
However, with Ibrahimovic, Robinho, Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
Ronaldinho and Pato now on the club's books, some are wondering how they will all fit into the same team.
But Galliani says that's not his problem.
"The players are ready to play, now it's up to Allegri to decide whether to play with four, three, two, one or none of them."

Eduardo howler darkens cloud over Portugal prospects

The keeper, who conceded just one goal at the World Cup, can be blamed for the errors, but his team mates are no longer hiding the fact the whole side has been rattled by coach Carlos Queiroz’s recent six-month ban for insulting anti-doping agents before the tournament in nfl jersey
South Africa.
“On the pitch we try to concentrate, but sometimes this dark cloud affects us,” midfielder Tiago said referring to the ban.
“The soap opera has to be resolved. It’s not just the fans who want it settled, the whole of Portugal wants it,” he added.
Queiroz has said he will appeal the ban, taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but a meeting of the Portuguese Football Federation’s (FPF) board on Thursday could lead to his sacking, according to media reports.
The FPF’s role in the case has been heavily criticised. Queiroz’s supporters say it has built up a case to try to fire the coach without paying him wages for the two years left in his contract, while his detractors say the federation has acted too slowly on firing him and damaged the team.
With just one point from their opening two games in Group H, the Portuguese have little margin of error left.
“It is a small group (with only five teams), just eight games and it is now a problematic Indianapolis Colts jersey
situation… Norway have two wins and that is very important as they are theoretically the outsiders with Portugal and Denmark favourites,” said interim coach Agostinho Oliveira.
The coach said he had been in contact with Queiroz, though not during the matches, but the pair have failed to minimise the impact of a long list of injuries headed by Cristiano Ronaldo as well as the international retirements of Deco and Simao.
Oliveira has been criticised for his team selections, particularly in midfield. Raul Meireles, Tiago and Manuel Fernandes started against Norway despite having barely played this season at their clubs, while the in-form Joao Moutinho was left on the bench.
Denmark, who beat Iceland 1-0 away, are likely to pose a stern test in Porto next month.
“Things are not going well on and Dallas Cowboys jersey
off the pitch. We have to turn it around and start collecting points,” captain Ricardo Carvalho said.
LISBON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo’s blunder against Norway dealt an early blow to his side’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2012 and showed that the dark clouds over the future of their coach are weighing on the players.
Eduardo’s failed clearance allowed Erik Huseklepp to score into an empty net and earn the Norwegians a 1-0 home win on Tuesday, coming just days after another error led to Cyprus’s late equaliser in the shock 4-4 home draw.

METZ, France (AFP) - A delegation from the Chinese Football Federation are spending four days at French Second Division club Metz with a view to sending their best young talent to develop there, the French side have announced.
Metz, two-time French Cup winners, have nfl throwback jerseys

Metz said their objective was to offer the youth players chosen by the federation the best working, schooling, medical and sporting conditions at facilities close to the club's training centre.
The alliance between Metz and Chengdu is set to bear its Indianapolis Colts jersey
first fruit as 19-year-old Yi Teng - who arrived for a trial last October - will sign his first professional contract on Friday just before the kick-off of the home match with Nantes.

McNabb: ‘Skins can’t win without Haynesworth

Donovan McNabb is throwing his public support behind the embattled Albert Haynesworth.
Amid a report that the Redskins and Titans are discussing a trade of football jerseys
Haynesworth — to which Tennessee general manager Mike Reinfeldt isn’t commenting, but also not denying — McNabb said during his weekly radio show that everybody knows the defensive lineman plays “a major part” in Washington’s defense.
“Albert is one of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
our brothers in the locker room … he understands, ‘Hey, I got to put the time and effort in,” McNabb said. “We can’t win without him. I think he’ll be here. I hope he’ll be here.”
That’s an interesting comment coming from the Redskins’ new vocal leader on a player who has been routinely criticized throughout the offseason, including an underwhelming review of his performance in the preseason finale from defensive coordinator Jim Indianapolis Colts jersey
Haslett.
Those appear to be carefully chosen words from McNabb.

Bills getting it right with Spiller

Apparently the Bills can see what the rest of us can see because Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Bills will select rookie RB C.J. Spiller as the team’s starter on Wednesday.
This is good news for anybody who either a.) picked nfl jerseys
Spiller in their fantasy draft or 2.) Nick Bakay.
Spiller looked really good for the Bills during preseason, Dallas Cowboys jersey
and I do not expect things to change much. Although our own Bucky Brooks has said that you should temper your enthusiasm about Spiller because the Bills figure to be behind in a lot of games. And that is one way of looking at it.
But, as I have stated here all along, the Indianapolis Colts jersey
Bills do not have a lot of offensive weapons. Spiller is it. The Bills are going to lean on him, no matter what the score. Spiller is the only guy who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. The Bills will have to use him.

Tomlin will not commit to Roethlisberger after return

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Sirius NFL Radio (via USA Today) on Tuesday that he is not committed to starting Ben Roethlisberger when the quarterback returns from his four-game suspension.
Yeah, we will see how quickly Tomlin changes his tune if the cheap nfl jerseys
Steelers struggle out of the gate. This is the kind of thing that a suspended player must go through. First it was being stripped as captain by his teammates, now his coach has to publicly say the right things and give starter Dennis Dixon the confidence that he truly is Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
a first-string quarterback.
In other words, do not worry about it.
In fact — seeing that I nabbed Roethlisberger in my Minnesota Vikings jersey
draft yesterday — I am excited that Tomlin is pushing his quarterback. Fantasy owners need a motivated Roethlisberger when he returns. Roethlisberger needs a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. Roethlisberger focused and motivated is going to be a good thing. So keep it coming, Tomlin.

England Boss Fabio Capello Wants Critics To 'Look In The Mirror'

England manager Fabio Capello has hit back at critics after his team comfortably beat Bulgaria 4-0 in their Euro 2012 qualifying opener.
Yet the triumphant display against Bulgaria is unlikely to nfl jerseys
silence those who called for his sacking following England's dismal World Cup showing.
And Capello has now taken a swipe at his critics, challenging them to "look in the mirror" and think about what they wrote about him.
"When you shave in the morning you have to look in the mirror and ask is what you wrote about this man correct or not," the 64-year-old said.
"I can't change what people write. I understand it has to be done.
"I look at myself and I am sure what I brought was good.
"I try to do my job really well but sometimes I make mistakes."
Capello tried clarify his use of the word 'respect' when talking about himself earlier, insisting that the word had a different meaning in his native Italian compared to the English language, of which he still has a weak grasp.
"Respect is not the right word because in Italy it means something different," he said.
"But I always feel the same. There is no change in me.
"When I started my career as a player I had a lot of 2010 nfl jerseys
big injuries. When I was 20 the newspapers said I was finished.
"I worked really hard and stayed strong. This time it is the same."
Despite the great pressure on him, Capello still insists managing England is still his "dream job".
Following Michael Dawson's injury against Bulgaria, Gary Cahill was given the nod ahead of Matthew Upson and Joleon Lescott to come on in his place.
"I have to decide about the position but Cahill is young and has a big future," said Capello.
"It is good for the players who have not played a lot of games to come into the team when we are doing well. It is not so easy when we are not."
Capello will study recent Switzerland performances closely before they meet on Tuesday, including their goalless draw against Australia on Friday night, before deciding where to let Wayne Rooney loose.
The Manchester United striker may still be struggling for goals and has still to reach his peak this season, but three direct assists against Bulgaria showed the value he can bring from a slightly deeper position than he has been used to.
"Rooney was always been given the licence to move around freely but this time he had to come back more and to play in the hole," outlined Capello.
"With James Milner left, Theo Walcott on the right and then Adam Johnson later, it was a great position for him.
"It depends on the opponents. If they put one midfielder in front of nfl football jerseys
their back four the position Rooney played is not as easy.
"But in this game, with Defoe running behind the defence I chose it for him."
"The players are sharp," Capello added. "That is so important in modern football.
"I told everyone before but no-one wants to listen."
